As the Need for Advocates Grows, CASA Seeks More Volunteers

August 15, 2025

Douglas County CASA was recently featured on Kansas Public Radio in a segment highlighting the urgent need for more volunteer advocates in the child welfare system.

In an interview with KPR’s J. Schafer, Executive Director Erick Vaughn discussed the challenges facing children in foster care and the unique role CASA volunteers play in offering stability, advocacy, and individualized support. Vaughn emphasized that while the system is full of committed professionals, CASA volunteers are often the only adults focused on just one child at a time—a presence that can make all the difference.

The segment also features a story about a CASA volunteer working alongside staff and local partners to secure beds and bedding for five siblings who had recently entered kinship care. That effort, coordinated within 48 hours, illustrates how CASA volunteers help meet both the immediate and long-term needs of children navigating foster care.

As the need for CASA services continues to grow, we are seeking more volunteers and community support to ensure every child has someone in their corner.
